Inviting you to take 5 minutes for philanthropy

As the end of 2015 nears and Congress gears up to take action before the session ends, the philanthropic sector is coming together to make our voice heard.

“I am calling to urge [Representative/Senator] to support:

Permanently extending the 1) IRA Charitable Rollover, 2) enhanced deduction for contributions of food inventory, and 3) enhanced deduction for contributions of conservation easements;

Expanding the IRA Charitable Rollover to allow gifts to donor advised funds.”

Several important charitable “tax extenders”—including the IRA Charitable Rollover and the enhanced deductions for conservation easements and contributions of food inventory—need to be extended before the end of this year. These charitable provisions were retroactively extended for one year last December, with just two weeks left in the year.

This year, we urge Congress to consider the negative implications that retroactive extension has on the ability of charitable organizations to do important work in our communities across the country. These tax extenders should be made permanent.

We also urge Congress to be proactive in policymaking to support philanthropy. Expanding the IRA Charitable Rollover to allow gifts to donor advised funds, and simplifying the private foundation excise tax would strengthen charitable initiatives, and amplify the positive impact of philanthropy across the country.
