Grantwriting Playbook – Grant Workshop

Location
ONLINE

Each year, we host our annual Grantwriting Workshop to support the incredible nonprofit organizations working across Tompkins County. This workshop is part of our commitment to strengthening the entire community — not just funding individual projects. We know that organizations operate with very different levels of capacity. Some have dedicated development staff and resources. Others — especially smaller, volunteer-run, or grassroots groups — are doing vital work with limited time, funding, and support. These differences can create real barriers in the grant application process.

This workshop is designed to help level the playing field. We name these realities openly because they matter. Strong ideas and meaningful community impact should not be overshadowed by limited grantwriting experience or capacity. Our goal is to ensure that smaller and emerging organizations have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to put forward a strong proposal that truly reflects their work. We see ourselves not just as a funder, but as a community partner. We want all nonprofit organizations to thrive — because when they thrive, our entire community thrives. JOIN US!

What You Can Expect

• Understand what funders look for in a strong application
• Clearly communicate your mission, impact, and need
• Avoid common pitfalls
• Strengthen narratives, budgets, and supporting materials
• Ask questions in a supportive, judgment-free space

Whether you are brand new to grantwriting or looking to refine your approach, this workshop is designed to meet you where you are. Participation is open to all nonprofit organizations, grassroots groups, and community initiatives — not just those applying to our grant cycle.
