Celebrate Community Foundation Week, November 12-18

The Community Foundation of Tompkins County will join in a nationwide celebration, November 12-18, 2022, to recognize the increasingly important role that community foundations play in strengthening localities and mitigating social issues like homelessness, food insecurity, and racial justice. For more than a century, philanthropic institutions have served as a trusted partner and resource whose effect can be seen in the lives of millions and in the vibrant neighborhoods that continue to thrive through their mission-driven work. For more than twenty years, the Community Foundation of Tompkins County makes it possible for citizens, local businesses, and mission-aligned organizations to create permanent philanthropic resources for the current and future needs of the community from basic human needs to creating innovative solutions.

Since December of 2012 Vector Magnetics Fund has been an active, classic expendable donor advised fund. Its donor advisor uses the fund for a variety of grant making. The majority of funds awarded are local and some in other places. Just this year Vector Magnetics has awarded more than $800k to 50 organizations. Hear directly from a grantee, the College Discovery Program says THANK YOU!

Established by Susan Christopherson through her will, the Susan Christopherson Community Planning Fund assists residents who want to improve their communities through planning and design. Susan envisioned communities in Central New York engaging their residents effectively and meaningfully in decision making around planning issues that affect their day-to-day lives. A few grantees include Brooktondale Community Center, Friends of Ithaca Youth Bureau, and the Center for Transformative Action. Hear directly from the Brooktondale Community Center>>HERE.
