Capacity-Building Consultations Now Available

At the Community Foundation, we believe that a grant check is just the beginning. Our commitment to nonprofits extends far beyond dollars—it’s about partnership, listening, and helping organizations build lasting strength from within.

That’s why we’re proud to announce the relaunch of our Capacity-Building Consultations, now open to all Tompkins County organizations—regardless of whether they’ve received a grant from us.

These consultations are designed to dig deeper than immediate funding needs and to help organizations assess and strengthen their core infrastructure. Using a web-supported assessment tool, we can evaluate key areas including strategic planning, mission orientation, financial management, board development, and more!

This work is grounded in trust-based philanthropy—an approach that prioritizes relationships over transactions and recognizes that nonprofits know their own needs best. Our goal is not to “fix” organizations, but to partner with them as they reflect, grow, and make the strategic decisions that will carry their mission forward.

We know that strong nonprofits make strong communities. And we’ve heard directly from our grantees and partners that what they often need most is space, support, and skilled guidance to focus on their internal health and resilience.

As we celebrate 25 years of impact, this initiative is a reflection of our evolving commitment to deeper, more meaningful support for the organizations that serve Tompkins County. We’re not just investing in programs—we’re investing in people, structures, and systems that make long-term impact possible.
