Meeting Families Where They Are: Inside Coddington Road Community Center

Our recent visit to the Coddington Road Community Center reinforced what we all already know: this organization is a vital lifeline for families in the more rural areas of our community. In areas where resources can be scarce and access to services challenging, Coddington Road stands as a beacon of support and opportunity.

The Community Center plays an essential role in serving residents who might otherwise face significant barriers to accessing basic needs and enrichment programs. For families living in our rural communities, this center isn’t just a convenience—it’s often the difference between struggling and thriving. The center offers so many programs designed to meet families where they are. The offer educational and recreational programming for all ages, amazing camps, clothing distribution, youth employment opportunities, property rental, and family support services, and more!

They understand that financial barriers should never prevent families from accessing critical services. Their sliding scale approach and flexible payment options ensure that parents can access programs regardless of their economic circumstances. This “meet them where they’re at” philosophy embodies true community-centered care. The center is currently undergoing a major construction project that will significantly expand its capacity to serve the community. The new space is scheduled to open this spring, allowing them to reach even more families and offer enhanced programming. This expansion represents not just physical growth, but a deepening commitment to the rural families who depend on their services.

At the helm of this remarkable organization is Executive Director Heather Mount, whose passion for community service is evident in every aspect of the center’s work. Heather’s leadership style reflects the understanding that meaningful change happens when organizations truly listen to and partner with the communities they serve. Her dedication goes beyond administration—she embodies the center’s values of dignity, accessibility, and genuine care for every individual who seeks support. She welcomed us with open arms and an open heart. Under Heather’s guidance, the center has cultivated a welcoming environment where families feel seen, heard, and valued. Her vision for community-centered service has shaped the organization’s approach to meeting people exactly where they are, without judgment or barriers.
