Growing a Greener Future Together 🌱

April is a time of renewal—when the earth reawakens around us and we’re reminded of the shared responsibility we hold to care for the places we call home. With Earth Day and National Garden Month inspiring action across our community, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on how local philanthropy is nurturing a more sustainable Tompkins County.
At Community Foundation of Tompkins County, a network of funds is helping to protect our natural resources, deepen environmental education, and support innovative solutions for a healthier planet. From the Environmental Education Fund and Sustainability Fund to the RAP (Regenerative Activities and Projects) Fund, these efforts are empowering organizations and neighbors alike to take meaningful action.
Funds such as the Joan E. and James E. Lawrence Environmental Fund, Community Science Institute’s Tapan Mitra Environmental Education Fund, John A. And Barbara J. Krout Fund, and the Museum of the Earth at PRI Fund help connect people—especially young learners—to the science and stewardship of our environment. Others, like the Finger Lakes Land Trust Stewardship Fund and the Tom and Maria Eisner Finger Lakes Land Trust Endowment Fund, ensure that our region’s natural landscapes are preserved and cared for – for generations to come.
Whether supporting hands-on learning at the Ithaca Children’s Garden Endowment Fund, advancing community-based sustainability through the Catalyst Fund and Just Community Fund, or fostering appreciation through the North American Rock Garden Society – Adirondacks Chapter Fund, each fund plays a unique role in strengthening our collective impact. Together—with the support of donors, fund advisors, and community partners—these funds are planting seeds of change. This April, we invite you to celebrate, learn, and consider how you might be part of growing a more resilient and vibrant environment for all. 🌎
